Willow was uncharacteristically quiet on their walk. It hadn’t taken Logan long to realise just how much she adored living practically on the beach. On the few occasions he had accompanied her on her regular communes with the ocean, she had been full of thoughts and questions, but this evening she stayed mute, answering his attempts at conversation with monosyllables. Not that he tried very hard. The thought of the meal ahead dominated his thoughts, what it would be like to be face-to-face with Nate, with the consequences of his actions regarding. Although he should be used to that by now, because the other consequence was by his side. Willow was a constant reminder of the damage he wrought so thoughtlessly.

It was hard to pinpoint when the time they had spent together in Vegas had spiralled out of control. Logan’s chest tightened as they approached the all-too-familiar Inn, and he was equally relieved and surprised when Willow took his hand and squeezed his fingers reassuringly.

‘What a stunning view,’ was all she said, her tone light, normal, as if she didn’t know his inner turmoil.

‘Yes.’ He was grateful for the conversational opening. ‘My ancestors had an eye for the best plots. Lookout House has the best situation in the town. We’ve had several developers offering to buy it over the years, more with an eye on the plot and the build potential there rather than the house itself. And Great-Great-Grandfather Byrne knew what he was doing when he established The Harbour Inn.’

The Inn was an attractive white two-storey building at one end of the harbour, overlooking the natural curve of the bay. Roof terraces, balconies and a large garden meant plenty of outside
